Millions of consumers plan their own short-break by booking flights and accommodation separately and as I wrote recently consumers need to keep a look out for fake websites. Book your accommodation through a personal recommendation or a company that you have used before. Taking advantage of inexperience You have to bear in mind that a high percentage of consumers are either using the internet for the first time, or are not very internet savvy and the target for online scammers.

Most people who read this blog are web-savvy and I am guilty of assuming that the internet is the be all and end all of travel. Frustrated consumers Too much choice and found searching online too time consuming...

I have just heard that accommodation only company Apartments abroad has today ceased trading. A question that has been bugging me for a little while is about the role of a traditional travel agent. So, I wanted to write a useful post, to help you book your holiday in 2010. Financially protect yourself To be protected financially should the company or airline go into administration...

An issue that annoys me is false pricing, where the company reduces the real price of the holiday just to get customers through the door but when they get to the booking stage, the holiday has shot up in price, or they receive an email saying that the price is incorrect. Blame culture in travel It seems to me that a lot of the issues that consumers...

The ‘Ask Mr Rants’ is proving to be useful for consumers. Every month I will be writing about the types of travel issues sent from consumers. Then, hopefully consumers can learn from other’s experiences and the industry, if it wants to really improve the consumer experience, can add their input. Here’s a selection of travel issues sent...

When we talk about the environment, airlines are the first to be criticised but they are not the only culprits, as consumers we have a responsibility too. I have started to see company’s concentrate on eco and green initiatives but the environment is low down on most consumers’ requirements. Donating to local projects According to a new startup...

About a month ago I launched the ‘Ask Mr Rants’ feature and what a response from consumers. I am starting to notice a few common issues and I want to highlight one of them. For many consumers choosing the right accommodation is important, no matter if it’s a hotel, ski chalet or apartment. Website error so holiday cancelled Most of us spend...

Regular readers will know I love a rant at the travel industry but today I am going to start by ranting at travel consumers! I love receiving emails from you, in fact I am really happy when I have helped you deal with a complaint, but it’s time to take some responsibility when you are booking your holiday.
